My Dear Little Stitchers,
I told you, in my previous listing, that I was going to go with my friend, Helen Grindley, to see "The Secret Life of Bees". Well, all of our plans changed.
Helen wanted to go to a relatively new restaurant in town, called Dough. It is a pizzeria, but the most expensive one I have ever been in. First of all, they had seating outside. It was cold with the wind blowing, so I did not want to sit outside. But they had those stand - up -tall heaters. I had first seen those at Octoberfest in Munich, back in the early 70s. We had to wait quite a while to get a table. They had people leaving, but clearing the tables off and getting them re-set-up was taking some time.
When we got to our table, it was smack dab right up next to the tables on either side, or so it seemed. Helen was disturbed by the close seating. I told her it was New York kind of seating. They don't have the wide open spaces in New York, and this guy was getting as many tables in as he could.
The average age in this place had to be mid 30s. And I was spoiling the curve... This is where all the young yuppies are hanging out, and on a Thursday night, there was quite a lot of them.
I found the food to be good, but Extremely Pricey. Helen got an order of bruschetta and I got a small house salad, and we shared them. Then we split a pizza with Fontina cheese, black olives and sausage (had to pay extra for the black olives and sausage). She had an Italian Creme Soda drink (strawberry), and I drank water. Then we did order dessert, and did not share. I have some chocolate gelato, and she had the biggest piece of tiramasu I had ever seen. We could have easily have split the dessert with no problem.
When all was said and done, and the check was brought.......sticker shock set in. With tax and tip, the bill was $62.00. And we SHARED everything except dessert. Helen was going on and on about how good it was, and how she would come back. Well, not with me. I can't afford that kind of dinner for PIZZA, no matter how good it is. For that cost, I can get a huge pizza from Rome's Pizza, and eat on it for days, with all kinds of toppings.
Then we went to the Palladium Movie Complex. Helen had thought that she had seen late showing listed. She had the wrong day of the week. The late shows are on the weekends. The only thing showing at that hour was Twilight. I knew nothing about this movie, except to say vaguely that it was about vampires. They had two theaters for the sneak preview. The parking lot was packed. We went in, and sat down, and waited an hour for the movie to start. Since I have never read the books, I did not know what to expect. Helen knows that I am not a fan of blood and gore. (Well, I don't mind a little of either, but not as the whole premise of the movie).
I enjoyed the movie. It was much more a romance than a vampire story. And what time did I get home??? 3 AM. Helen and I have done this before, but not always to such a good result. We went to see Cloverfield when it opened up, and I got seasick in the movies.
Anyway, I am sitting in my family room with an afghan and a cat on my lap, when I am not in here typing, and stitching pearls on my biscornu which I need to finish up. Gotta get back to the pearls.....
Hugs,
Marsha
